WATCHES & WONDERS 2020: New Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Control Collection and Reverso One
Jaeger-LeCoultre arrives at the first online edition of Watches & Wonders with the new Master Control collection and brings a new feminine version for the Reverso
Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Master Control collection was introduced in 1992 and it was the first to benefit from the “1000 hours control” certification. A demanding process, that tests the entire cased-up watch (not just its movement), set a new benchmark when introduced and has continually evolved in response to technological advances, to remain one of the watch industry’s most stringent testing protocols.
The new Master Control collection we see now is a combination of design DNA inspired from the classic watches of the 1950s and the brand’s most emblematic complications. The 40 mm diameter case which houses all the new models is available either in steel or in Le Grand Rose gold, a new pink gold alloy presented now for the first time. The addition of palladium to the recipe guards against oxidation and ensures the radiant color will not fade over the years. The leather straps have also been upgraded by introducing a softer matt finish produced by the finest tannery in France with a technique called Novonappa using a vegetable-based tanning process. Thanks to a Presto Spring lug attachment and a simple clip for removing and refitting the deployant buckle, the new straps can be quickly changed without any tool. For a more elegant look there is still available a choice of alligator straps.
All the new models receive upgraded calibers as well as a completely new one for the Master Control Chronograph Calendar, a first for Jaeger-LeCoultre.
The basis for the new collection is represented by the Master Control Date where the mechanism features new components made of silicon and titanium for an optimized functionality and a power reserve of 70 hours, a performance offered for most of the references. The Master Control Calendar indicates the date – with a dedicated hand around the dial – the days, the months and the moon-phase. As a new feature for the date display, the hand jumps from the 15th to the 16th in order not to obscure the moon-phase display. The Master Control Geographic is already well known among connoisseurs since introduction in 1990 for the way it indicates the hour for a second time zone. Rather than indicating only the hour of a second time zone, the Geographic also has a 24-hour night/day indicator and, in an aperture at the bottom of the dial, displays the city name relating to the zone. This gives travelers the option of setting the second time by location, rather than needing to calculate the time difference. The Master Control Chronograph Calendar is the complete new model of the collection as Jaeger-LeCoultre never offered a chronograph with a triple calendar display and a moon-phase before. The task asked for a completely new caliber – named 759 – that features a column-wheel chronograph with a vertical clutch, a moon-phase indicator and offers a 65 hours power reserve.
On the list of novelties for Watches & Wonders, Jaeger-LeCoultre adds a new addition for the iconic Reverso collection launched almost 90 years ago. The new Reverso One is instantly recognisable due to its new red-wine dial. The rich glow is achieved by applying multiple layers of lacquer over a subtle sunray guilloché pattern and is complemented by white numerals and a polished steel case of 49 x 20 mm. As a final flourish, the new red-wine colour of the shiny alligator strap ensures that it perfectly matches the dial. Inside the case there is a mechanical movement and on the plain case back there is free space for engraving.
