Transylvania Classic 2020

Tissot went to Transylvania for Romania’s best classic cars rally

As for the last five years, Tissot was one of the main sponsors of Transylvania Classic, an international FIVA  competition  dedicated to classic cars that race on the best roads from the heart of Romania, including the world famous Transfăgărășan.

The difficult situation related to Coronavirus that cancelled most of the events world-wide didn’t stop Transylvania Classic 2020. Over 63 crews lined up at the start for this year with more crews than before listed for the electric cars section, an interesting extension of the race reserved for the future mobility. Therefore, the centre of Sibiu has welcomed automobiles manufactured since 100 years ago as well as the latest creations of the industry. Thousands of people that came to see the cars were able to admire special models like Renault Torpedo from 1920 or Ford A from 1929 next to Porsche Taycan Turbo S, the most powerful series electric model from 2020 or Mini Cooper SE. Among participants, Transylvania Classic counted many more fascinating examples of how the industry evolved during the last century: Austin Healey 3000 MKII from 1961, Rolls Royce Corniche from 1970 and Ferrari 308GTS from 1979.

At the end of the three days race that summed up over 400 km of challenging roads, the competition dedicated to the historical models was won by a Volkswagen “Beetle” 1300 from 1970. As for the electric cars, the first position of the podium went to a Renault Zoe. Nevertheless, it seemed that all the competitors had a great time driving around Transylvania, an atmosphere that fully justifies the motto of the competition: a rally like a holiday!

Following the already established tradition, winners received awards from Albini Prassa, Tissot importer and distributor for Romania, who is already prepared to support Transylvania Rally for 2021, between August 19th and 21th.
