Only one meeting place for the Swiss watches industry: Geneva, April 2021!

Today marks the beginning of a new era in the watches industry. The biggest brands powering the fame of Baselworld since decades have decided to leave the emblematic fair and start a new one in Geneva. Rolex, Tudor, Patek Philippe, Chanel and Chopard will join a new platform to benefit from the support of the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie and they will share the same city and period with the already well established watch fair Watches & Wonders: April 2021.

Baselworld has been the heart of the Swiss watches industry since 1919. A fair for all the brands to launch their novelties to the world of retailers and enthusiasts. Actually a phenomenon that transformed the life of Basel and made the city famous on all the continents.

But then there is the wind of change. The industry suffered a lot after the quartz crisis, later after the 2008 crash and even more during the most recent years. The pragmatic new generations seem to care less about expensive possessions and even less about archaic possession like a mechanical watch. In the middle of this dark scenario, there is also Apple with the vision that transformed the smart watch from a gimmick into a real necessity.

Evolution is always pushing the world for the better. And this is how it will always be even during troubled times like the times of Coronavirus. You may be as strong as Rolex or Patek Philippe and still you have to adapt to the future. If Baselworld seems too slow then maybe it is time to leave.
