New Breitling Top Time: Retro Style Statement
Breitling made the promise to look more into its glorious past. And this is what the brand is doing as we speak.
The first Breitling Top Time was presented in the 1960s and it was an instant success. Willy Breitling, the creative force from those days, introduced the new model as targeted “to the young and active professionals”. Said and done. The Top Time chronographs became the symbol of an entire generation driven by design, being chosen also by women.
Original Breitling Top Time from the 1960s

More than 50 years later, Breitling is looking back to its glorious past. The Top Time watch is reissued with an updated and upgraded personality. And as a statement for the unconventional personality, this modern episode comes with a dial meant to make a bold statement from the first sight. The bicolour combination is already famous among collectors under the expression of “Zorro” dial.
The new Top Time is eye catching once seen today when “vintage” inspired design is back in trend. But Breitling CEO, Georges Kern, is not following fashion. He is following a long term strategy to transform the brand into a desirable destination for a special publ ic that he describes as “men and women who love this blend of history, design and great performance.” The creative team benefits from the support of Fred Mandelbaum, the world’s most important Breitling collector which we interviewed here.
The updated version of Top Time comes in a slightly enlarged steel case of 41 mm in diameter. Breitling uses an in-house calibre chronograph movement with a power reserve of 48 hours. Moreover, the accuracy is confirmed by the COSC certification. The red hour and minute hand as well as the dot markers are coated with the luminescent Super-Luminova for a perfect legibility. The vintage mood of the Zorro dial continues with the brown nubuck leather strap.
The new Top Time is limited to 2000 pieces that are available also on-line, besides the classic retail network. As another premiere, Breitling is offering the watch with a blockchain-based digital passport which confirms the authenticity and ownership of the watch.
