Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Geneve (GPHG) 2021

The most important distinctions in the International Watch Industry – Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Geneve (GPHG) – were unveiled during a festive ceremony marking the 20th anniversary of the competition founded to celebrate and promote the watchmaking art worldwide.

Considered to represent the “Oscars” of watches on a global scale, the yearly GPHG distinctions are decided following the objective votes of specialists coming from every field related to the horological universe and gathered under the concept of GPHG Academy. The new watches introduced during the year are first nominated and then selected to compete. During the final phase of decision, a selection of 30 academicians arrives in Geneva to actually touch, feel and exchange ideas in order to decide the 19 winners for the different categories. The ultimate “best in show” distinction, named “Aiguille d’Or” Grand Prix, is meant to define the choice that embodies horological art in its purest form.

For 2021, the big “Oscar” went to Bvlgari for the Octo Finissimo Perpetual Calendar, the 7th world record as the thinnest Perpetual Calendar in a continuous series of yearly world records meant to position the Octo Finissimo on top of the fine Haute Horlogerie creations.

The rest of the distinctions went to Audemars Piguet, Bernhard Lederer, Chopard, Christiaan Van Der Klaauw, CIGA Design, De Bethune, Furlan Marri, Grand Seiko, Louis Vuitton, MB&F, Piaget, Tudor, Van Cleef & Arpels and Zenith brands for the quality of their creations in various categories. The Special Jury Prize, which rewards a personality or an influential institution on the watchmaking scene, was won this year by the Dubai Watch Week.

The 2021 nominated watches, including the 18 award-winners, are on display at the Musée Rath in Geneva until November 14, 2021. On the occasion of its 20th anniversary, the GPHG also invites you to discover – within the setting of this exceptional exhibition – the 20 watches that won the “Aiguille d’Or” Grand Prix between 2001 and 2020. The 2021 award-winning watches will subsequently be presented during Dubai Watch Week, from November 24 to 28, and then in Paris from December 2 to 5.

MISTERWATCH is proud to be a part of GPHG Academy, involved in voting the winners as well as participating at the festive awards ceremony held in Geneva on November 4th, 2021.
