Time to be Spent

Alexandru Pițigoi
pilot

Besides fun and health, sport is mostly competition, one of its defining elements being time. And if in the case of some sports, this is just a reference for shaping the framework (ex: the team or athlete has to score as many points, goals etc. within a certain timeframe), in others such as swimming, athletics and motorsport, time is the measure of performance itself, determining the hierarchy of the competition. In the automotive races, either endurance (rally, rally-raid) or speed (circuit, hill climb racing), the stopwatch is the invisible “opponent”; the faster you are, the better you are, the quicker you are, the more chance you have to defeat the other competitors.
All the behavior of a pilot and of his team is governed by the fight with the hundreths of a second. All the parts of the car, every little detail or adjustment, and each pilot’s gesture, are made with only one purpose, to be the fastest, to stop the timer at its earliest. Therefore, in a sport where performance is measured in fractions of a second, the athlete’s relationship with time is extremely intense, it determines its actions, the approach and the preparation of the competition, for which in most cases a lot of time is spent.
