Master of the Seas

The launching of the new Yacht-Master 42 brings back into discussion the historical and indestructible link between Rolex and the world of yachting. Of all kinds.

The Rolex navigation watches, reunited in the Yacht-Master family, are unmistakable. Their image, transformed today into a style horologic statement, is deeply anchored in the practical spirit of any instrument meant to serve a vital mission. In the case of adventurers of the seas, the watch becomes synonymous with speed and direction, so time has the role of differentiating between success and failure. This explains why the first thing that catches your attention is the massive, bi-directional rotating bezel, on which the 60 minutes of an hour or the 60 seconds of a minute are graded, depending on what needs to serve at a certain time. The new Yacht-Master 42 is, first of all, the largest member of the family, adding another 2 mm to the diameter of 40 mm already known from the pink gold version. The bezel is made of matte black ceramics, in which the gradations represent inserts of Cerachrom, a special ceramics patented by Rolex. In fact, ceramics experiments have been a concern for Rolex ever since nobody ever thought of using this material in the world of watches. Currently, the level of expertise allows the brand to process and produce its own ceramics, a material that theoretically does not scratch and never discolors. Figures and graduations in Cerachrom are poured into the bezel and then polished.
